Livia was Rachelle's hero, best friend, and mentor. This foundation lives on in her memory and plays a big part in Rocker Girl Camp's existence.

We Need to Take Care of the Water

I am burned, tired, aching and I smell of Deet and Suncreen. I have had the most "enlightening" weekend playing at The Thundering Women Festival in Thunder Bay. My highlight? Playing my new song at a workshop with Dahmnait Doyle, Carey Caulder, Shelley Jacobson, and Holly Baby. I gave them each a verse to improve on. Wow. It was amazing and I have found my new lounging partner...Dahmnait. Front porch lounging that is. I have met so many beautiful and genuine people so far. Hung out for abit with Lee Aaron and her jazz band while making my way back to the University. Wow, they put on a great show saturday night. Tight tight band. She is a great montour to have. She has seen it all and more.
Oh...and the water? Watched the Sweetwater Women perform and got truly touched. It's true....we need our water. We don't respect our water. We take it forgranted. Now is the time to take care of our water.
Now I must crash and burn and think. A lot of thinking to do. I love you, all of you beautiful people. Love is all.

THe River is Rising

The river almost hit record heights yesterday. All my favorite trails are gone. So sad. Today is a 10 hour retail day and then tomorrow I fly fly away to play the Thundering Women Festival along side Lee Aaron, The Wailin' Jennys and many other great artists. Exciting times aheading my way. Recording has been going well...almost time for an external hard drive for all my music files. I am so excited to share the new stuff with you. Even more excited to record them with Joby and Rick at Baker Studios. I am in love with the recording process and making things sound new and exciting. I will have more kitchen recordings posted soon. Back to selling stuff.

Grooving in My Kitchen

I am a little stressed. Only a couple weeks until Rocker Girl Camp. Everything is running smoothly. Doing a little everyday helps alot.
I have been recording a lot in my kitchen. Many hours with Apple and my guitars, putting new stuff together for the solo album. I think it is going to be slightly Lucinda Williams and slightly Beck.
Okay need to play more and type less. Bye.

Constant Craving

Listening to KD Lang and getting ready to take on the bird size mosquitoes in the valley. Yes, it is time to exercise and get rid of some yah yahs. I finally had a wicked sleep and got my normal eye color back. It has been nothing but work, rockergirlcamp, and gigs. Non stop whiskey agogo. I am soon going to be doing nothing but music and play and music. I am sooo looking forward to that day. No more retail.

Goodness Gracious Great Balls...

It is almost midnight and I have to teach in the morning. My most dedicated student, Lisette, is scheduled to arrive at 9am sharp. We are going over bar chords in "99 Red Balloons" among other things. i love teaching.
Today I taught Dillon. He is 13 and loves Guns n'Roses. I have a lot of homework to do cuz grade 7 was a long time ago.
Did I tell you that I love my computer. "I Love you Apple". We are going to have a family some day and a white house and picket fence and baby apples. I am looking forward to the day.

"Mosquitoes as Big as Birds"

Well, well. It is finally here. Summer. I just got home from a run and was thoroughly trashed from outrunning the monster sized mosquitoes! I usually slack off and run/ walk....bla bla bla but today they kicked my sorry butt.
Anyhow, I also just finished recording some new tunes in my kitchen. I love my computer and she loves me. Together we make things happen. I will post them sooon. A super HUGE thanks to Jason at Surf and Destroy for making this website. I am going to walk his dog for the next 5 years! Smooches.

"And Rachelle van Zanten is an amazing slide guitar player. She's got a wild, heavy percussive sound. It's a mix of heavy metal and edgy acoustic rock."
