"Sa musique resolument moderne puise pourtant ses racines dans la folk, le bluegrass et le blues. Rachelle se situe donc entre le slide de Ben Harper, Chris Whitley ou John Butler, le minimalisme post rock des White Stripes et la melancolie de Neil Young ou Cat Power, tout ceci avec l'elegance d'une jeune Emmylou Harris..."

Les Vaches Folk....

Je suis en France. C'est tres belle. My french bites because my brain is in german mode still. I missed my train to Hannover yesterday and ended up almost missing my flight to Paris. But I have come to realize that on certain flights such as Air France, you could show up 10 minutes before the take off and they would greet you with a smile and let you on. So I freaked out for nothing. My first day with no zen. Not bad. So now I am listening to Eric play intricate guitar in open C#. Soon we will be picking up the band man! I have a band!!!! The Goldrush boys are on their way. They are the rythmn section for one of my favorite Brit pop bands, Goldrush. "I'm waiting for the wheels to turn..." Should be fun I think.

I Like the Swedes

We are in Dortmund and I am avoiding washing dishes. Myself and 'Shooting John' had a great show last night in Subrosa. Very cool people and very cool sounds. I like touring with the Swedes because they like to walk around in their underwear. It feels like home.
Today we travel to Hann-Munden for a show at Kasten and then it is time to go for a day off. Yay. My voice is back but I still feel slightly like scheisse. Peder is sick as well. The road is a crazy business let me tell you. Oh and I think Helena will be joining me with her cello on stage tonight. OH I am a lucky woman.

Lost in Berlin

Got an encore at the show last night. Made the tough trip there worth it. And I watched 2 kick ass French bands and got to jam with Franck and Jeff, the rhythm section for Brisa Roche. The audience was so wonderful and into it and they bought my record so what more could I ask for. Then I found my way home....Berlin is big. I climbed 8 flights of stairs with a Fender AMp, 2 guitars, 80 CDs, and a 40 L back pack before realizing I was in the wrong tower. So I took it all back down and then up the other tower and I think it was 3:30 am before I found my bed. But I didn't freak. Amazingly enough I went all zen.
And then this morning I woke to NO vocal chord action. I couldn't speak nor sing! Scheisse! So I went to my show at Popkomm in the Aufsturz Club and did a Janis Joplin/ Tom Waits kinda thing. It was cool. Now I can't speak at all and am living off of throat lozenges and spray. I have tomorrow to recover before playing in Dortmund. I guess I should have learned sign language after all.

Hamburg to Berlin with 40 lbs. on my lap

Hey kids....I am dead but I am in Berlin so it ain´t all that bad. Had a fun show with Shooting John at the Knust in Hamburg. Thank you Sven for the AMAZING sound! You are a talented man! We then went to a hostel and slept on Pirate beds. Today I caught a lift with the band to Berlin and we had soooo much stuff in the van that we were trapped under it for 4 hours. Regardles I was thankful for the ride. I just finished my soundcheck at the Gruene Salon and now 3 bands are to follow. I am now ready to hire a tour manager and rent a car. Yes, I am grumpy.

Trains trains trains

After a fabulous night in Todnau, I returned to the top of the mountáin at 5 am to pack my bags and get ready for the long voyage north to Holzminden. I had such a great week in Todnauberg and thank you so much to Tine for the walks, laughs, and icecream. I am now recovering from missing 3 train connections and barely making my show in Holzminden. Thank you to all of the students at LSH for listening to my tunes and buying the album. I had so much fun. Now it's time for some cuppaccino in the market square.

Top Blues Artist? Wow!

I don't own one blues record yet my album is one of the top picks for September for the Toronto Blues Society Playlist. I guess sometimes you just have the blues.

CDStarts.de Kritik- September 2006

"Traumhaftes Gitarren-Picking und stimmungsvolle, groovige Drums markieren anhand von "Take Me Right Back" den ersten Hohepunkt des Longplayers. There's a donkey outside

I awoke this morning in Todtnauberg to the sound of a donkey. He was mad but I don't know why. I am currently in the Black Forest, high up in the fresh air writing the material for my new album scheduled to be recorded in the fall of 2007. Last night I played with the wonderful Jackie Leven in Offenburg. He is a sweet, talented man and I am so glad that I met him. His songs are long and epic and make me cry. 'Single Father' is my current fave.
Now I am off until saturday when I play in Todnau. Then my sched is non stop so I must rest now. I am really excited to play with the newest rhythm section from Oxford UK consisting of Graham ROby on drums and Hamish Tesco on bass. We are doing the Take Root Festival in Assen Holland along with other cool hits like Colin Linden. Mmm. Slide.

Shot at in Holzminden

Guten Morgen,
It's early and the military base is practicing shooting right by my bedroom. I am on Canadian time in Germany so this means little sleep for the first while. Waynefest was so wicked and I loved playing with DI Kooch and Peter Moller. Pure groove action. I then caught a flight to Frankfurt and carried 240 CDs, 2 guitars, a backpack, and the some Painting Daisies' merch across 4 trains. It was a moderately hellish experience but I managed to find my was to Holyminden. My favorite soup was waiting thanks to Katja as well as the best birthday cake ever. It was made by Christina and had prunes on it. How appropo after a long journey. Now I am getting packed for the train journey to Offenburg where I will open for Jackie Leven tonight. I am actually most excited about the Hotel Sonne and the muesli on the morning. Oh and a run in the Black Forest. See u soon.
