Slight Gong Show

So on wednesday the guys missed their morning flights to Paderborn due to insane traffic on the UK motorway. They ended up having to fly to Dusseldorf where a wonderful Fabian picked them up and drove them all the way to Holzminden to make it in time for the show. it was a miracle really! It was a good thing as the show at the Tonenburg was sold out and the peeps were in like sardines. I was overjoyed to see the guys walk in at 10 pm...time for rock shirts and then strap in and hold on. We then busted a move to Holland and played with Johnny Dowd in Ottersum. Quirky blues rock I would call it. Very interesting.K, will tell you about Belgium in a sec...gotta watch some footie.

Bats Outside the Window

Bats fly past outside the window. It is dusk and I am falling asleep to the sound of String Mansassy and Jane's consistant typing at the computer. As I drift, I occasionally glance up at the shadows on the wall and the flash of the bats. I am glad to be inside, protected by the walls and sheltered by the roof as wild things buzz, eat, hunt, call, retreat. It is a German village and a German wine and a German time and here I am oddly placed into the scene, fresh from somewhere else, worn from everywhere else. Today is a day off...sacred...precious...loved. Thank you Friedrichsrode for your kindness, silence, applause, Pflaumekuchen, and forest. I followed the trails and found myself at the end and once again was sane for the next leg of the journey. For me it is a tree that keeps me charged-not a city or a monument or a fast car. I am a product of my birthplace and to that I shall remain true.

Back to the Forest- Germany

I am drinking Brombeer juice and getting prepared to make peace soldiers for breakfast. I can hear Jane snoring which is good. We are both tired after the last two shows and are now getting rested for another train journey with four connections and a ride up the hill to beautiful Friedrichsrode. Leipzig was strange. For a moment I went back to age 15 when I was paid $15 to play for the maypole dance. The staff were sweet and the people were totally into it and I got to play my strat through a Marshall Cab. I think I just didn't feel like the prom queen that I wanted to be. This all changed in Bad Salzuflen- Flannel sheets, organic food, soja lattes. The show was fun fun fun.
Now I am off the the forest to find my peace solders.

Berlin Berlin

Just woke up. It is 7:30 pm and I am about to rock out after Jane at Berlin Guitars. It is our second night in a row here and the music is flowing freely. Today we went to the Tiergarten and walked through the park land and on to the Brandenburg Tor. I have done this walk before but am always impressed and amazed by the beauty of the buildings. We then witnessed a protest march by the Chimney Sweepers all decked out in their slick uniforms. Mckinley advised me that it is good luck to touch one so I did and yes, i now feel lucky.I must go now and get warm for the show.

The Chuck to TO to Frankfurt to Berlin

My friends are amazing and I could not do what I do without them. Well I could but it would be hard and expensive. I want to say a HUGE thank you to Brent and Andrea for picking up my flight case and driving many miles to bring it to my show. And I want to say another thanks to Trev for the great egg white breakie at Albert's. And I want to say a giant thanks to Niki for the love and roasted yams. And I want to say a really big thanks to Iain for driving my 60 km to and from public transport and shows! And I want to say heck yah to Godo and Shantu for the gut geschmect chili. And another thanks to Bridgit Ryan for being so rad at 7 am in the morning. If anyone found my guitar strap at the show, can you please save it for my return in June?
I have a riot jamming with Chris Smith. Ah the old days. Thanks Phil Alain for the show.

Junofest!

I am currently sitting in the Sugarbowl in Edmonton Alberta after a crazy fun weekend at the Junos in Calgary. It was grandiose and I met many new peeps and got to play my showcase with Alex Cuba on bass and Joby Baker on drums! Lucky me. It was loud, fat, fun. Now I am preparing for the up and coming whirlwind by purchasing copius amounts of hydration salts. I also need to go and find my newly made flight case which will protect my strats for years to come. I think you could drive a skidder over it and the guitars would live. K, adios.

Regina Regina....

I am sitting in an old, crooked house on the prairies of Saskatchewan. Upstairs, a Canadian treasure writes her latest work and I wonder what kind of mystery is unfolding on her screen. I somehow ended up in Gail Bowen's house and am now about to get lost in her latest release, The Endless Knot. Her son, Nat, drummed for me last night (i was lucky) at a killer show at McNally's. I was also blessed to be joined by the rest of the Richard Groulx band, Phil and Richard. Thanks guys. The crowd was superb and knew my tunes which sent tingles down my spine. Oh, it is wonderful when the highway dues start to pay off. THANK YOU REGINA:)
