From Forest to Trucks

I finished up an incredible journey in Germany to start a job in the forest checking newly planted trees. I love it. It is completely different from the touring life. I see moose and wild flowers on a regular basis. Today I fly to Edmonton to open for the Derek Trucks Band. This is also exciting. I have been listening to his music non-stop and find his slide playing to be very unique and fresh. It is 5:17 am and I am fighting off the sore throat and thinking zen thoughts about a solid set to deliver at the Winspear Centre tonight. I have longed for a show there for a LONG time so here we go.

Almost to Poland.

I am eating a Bratwurst and pirating wireless in the middle of somewhere north of Berlin.
I am preparing for the next leg of the journey which will be a true test of endurance. We play tonight at Cafe Scheune in Wredenhagen and then drive through the night to Gottingen where we return gear and I find chocolate for prezzies. Then I catch a 3 hour train to Frankfurt Flughafen and catch my long list of flights that lead back to Prince George. I am ready though....have been carbo loading since 2 pm.
Singwitz was incredible. We never know what is coming in the east but as usual this venue was superb. And the people all went home with the CDs and a smile. Good vibes all around. The night before was in Friedrichsrode and was equally great. I partook in the local delicacy- Schweine Schmaltz? It wasn't my favorite. I am not really into eating pig fat. I did manage to wake up in time for a great run through the lucious forest and get my yah yahs out.
So now I must find somewhere to hang my head before the show and intense journey.
See you on the other side all you Canadians.

Marshal Boucher

I was first introduced to Marshal at the Driftwood Hall in Smithers, B.C. during a set break for our January 08 show. He was beaming- he loved to dance. In the beginning of the same summer Marshal was hired on as my bass player for some festivals. I was delighted by the fact that he didn’t mind taking the Greyhound Bus and he was keen to play places likes Bella Coola which required endless hours of driving. We picked him up in Williams Lake one hot, July morning and proceeded to put him in the bass player chair which was an old forklift seat my dad had installed into my 1981 Dodge Van. He was once again beaming. He was overjoyed at the thought of touring with the band, playing his bass, and being apart of something that was musically driven. He added a new light and happiness to our van as well as the stage. His smile never saddened. His energy never lulled. His attitude was infectious. I feel blessed to have had Marshal in my life and my musical career even though so brief. I wish I could have been there today to pay my respects. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, fans, and community.
