Mount Klappan to the Kispiox River

I am high from the most full and abundant weekend up north. It all started at the Sacred Headwaters Festival Gathering in Iskut where the 15 elders arrested on the Blockade back in 2005 were honored. It was emotional to sing "My Country" for them. They and John Brown of Royal Dutch Shell were the ones who sparked the lyrics and the emotions for that song. I was lucky enough to get Irma Bourquin, one of the arrested elders, to join myself and the film crew the next day in the Headwaters. We spent the night at Wade Davis' quaint lakeside cabin and then packed up the trucks the next morning for the 100 km drive into paradise. Once we reached the top of Mount Klappan I was hit with the tremendous energy and power of the area. It is hard to believe that Shell wanted and still wants to put 3500 km and 1500 wells in this stunning landscape that feeds and waters the wildlife and people. It fueled a fire within me to do whatever I can to fight for the right of the land and its creatures and protect it from the corporate bullies. More in a bit. Emotional...

The Beauty of the Northwest

I have been so lucky. What an incredible summer of Rocker Girls and excellent Shows of Rock. Oh and the Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival was rainy superbness. I have just floated a section of the Kispiox River where I managed to guide a raft amongst gentle sweepers and baby wave trains. Thanks to excellent river smarts of Shannon McPhail, I was able to spot Sockeye, Pink, and Chinook salmon making their way up the river. Lucky me. We are now heading up to Iskut to honor the elders at the Sacred Headwaters Festival and shoot a music video for "My Country". This video is not for Much Music so I can do whatever I want. It is all about paying tribute to the land, its people, the web of life, and the spirit that runs through us. I have chosen my Alice Cooper T-Dress as a possible stage outfit. K, off we go. Namaste.
