River Powell

The sun greeted us as we touched down in Powell River on Sunday afternoon. It was nice to be able to see the beautiful ocean vistas from our small plane. The Sunshine Music Festival was packed with colorful west coasters full of energy to dance the night away. We played our guts out and then celebrated with the volunteers and staff of the festival at a local cabin. The chef from the Laughing Oyster spoiled us with incredible edible creations. My favorite was the oyster number. Now it is time for another adventure. I have managed to find a plane that will fly me and my flight case to Victoria from Sechelt. I really hope I don't get ill.

Rolla to Powell

Thick, black clouds rolled across the prairie sky followed by seriously aggressive winds. We were huddled in the green room on the Sweet 905 Festival site awaiting our turn to rock. I have missed the prairie storms while in B.C. so periodically stuck my head out the door to see what was ablowing. I didn't come prepared for the cold. My flip flops were fashionable but not doing a great job as a thermal insulator. My merino wool was adequate but I could have been happier in a giant parka. I didn't complain but merely rocked from side to side, back and forth while sipping on a cold Canadian (probably not the best choice). Troy and Graham were alongside me shivering as they supped. As the storm passed we made our way out onto the grounds only to be greeted by an incredibly brilliant rainbow in complete fullness. I have never in all my 34 years seen such a bright and full rainbow. What a way to start a rock show. We rocked and rolled as the happy and bright people of the northeast danced and reveled in the wild prairie energy that hung in the post storm sky.
Since this journey we have made our way back south to Vancouver. Lucky for us, our hotel room was next to a bowling alley. I lost as usual (my people are not bowlers) and Graham and Troy each split a victory (they come from a long line of bowlers). We are now on our way to Powell River for another festival and journey. I hope to eat raw sockeye.
